the-salvadoran-bean:

El Salvador. Birthplace of my ancestors, and garden where my roots are planted. I am American by the laws of land, but Salvadoran by heart. To me El Salvador means my parents, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins…El Salvador means family. To me El Salvador represents humility, hard work, dignity and honor, suffering and misery. El Salvador to me is my home away from home. Today I am proud of my Salvadoran heritage. Proud of the Pipil blood running through my body, proud descendant of Atlacatl, and proud to be part of a people who still consider me theirs, a being blanketed under their sombrero azul despite being an outsider.
Today I honor Salvadoran Independence. Gained Spetember 15, 1821, my people have worked hard to maintain our ethnicity, our culture, and our identity alive.
¡Viva la independencia Salvadoreña! ¡Viva El Salvador!
and to recognize my Central American brothers who also celebrate their independece, ¡Viva Centroamérica!
